The National University of Advanced Legal Studies was established in the year 2005 by Act 27 of 2005 of the Kerala State Legislature. It is a public university, is situated in Kochi - the industrial capital of Kerala and the seat of the Kerala High Court - in a 10 acre in the Kinfra Hi-Tech Park at Kalamassery. The university is recognized by the University Grants Commission under section 2(f) and section 12B of the UGC Act. It is also a member of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU). It has also been approved by the Bar Council of India. The National University of Advanced Legal Studies is the first and only National Law University in the state of Kerala and one of the 23 NLUs in India. NUALS Kochi is also ranked 11 in all of India for law studies as per the rankings published by India Today 2022.

The National University of Advanced Legal Studies courses are offered to interested candidates at undergraduate, postgraduate, PG diploma as well as doctoral levels. There are a total of 7 courses offered to students in the stream of law such as B.A. L.L.B (H), PG Diploma in Cyber Law, PG Diploma in Medical Law and Ethics, L.L.M Constitutional and Administrative Law and more. All the courses at the college are offered in offline, regular mode to the students. The NUALS Kochi admission to the UG as well as PG courses i.e. BA LLB and LLM is offered on the basis of the performance of the candidates in the CLAT entrance exam. 

The NUALS Kochi campus is spread over an area of 10 acres and offers students a variety of facilities including moot court, classrooms, sports, gym, auditorium, cafeteria, library, boys hostel, girls hostel, wi-fi, IT infrastructure, legal aid clinic, ATM and many more. A placement cell at NUALS Kochi helps in the placement of applicants in their final year. Faculty members and student representatives make up the placement cell at the National University of Advanced Legal Studies. To prepare students for placement, the cell holds a variety of pre-placement training sessions, including workshops, seminars, guest lectures, industry tours, group discussions, mock interviews, soft-skills training, etc. Some of the major participating recruiters are ADN Associates, Bhagat Law Chambers, Fox Mandal Associates and ICICI Bank.

Is NUALS Kochi a government university?

The National University of Advanced Legal Studies Kochi was established in the year 2005 and it was authorised by National Law University Jodhpur Act as a government law school. It was established by Act 27 of 2005 of the Kerala State Legislature. Through this act, the National Institute for Advanced Legal Studies (NIALS) established by the Bar Council of Kerala Trust in 2002 merged with the NUALS. In 2008, an amendment streamlined the powers and functions of the authorities of the University and ensured the active involvement of the Government of Kerala.

What all specialisations are offered under LLM course at NUALS Kochi?

LLM course is offered in two specialisations at NUALS Kochi such as International Trade Law and Constitutional & Administrative Law. The admission to these courses is offered on the basis of the CLAT entrance exam. The CLAT entrance exam is administered by the Consortium of NLUs (CNLU) for a total of 26 National Law Universities countrywide. The merit in the entrance exam is used for the allotment process of NLUs.
